UAE Desert Safari New Rules

DUBAI New rules have been put in place for those applying for a desert safari driver license.

It is now mandatory to obtain a Desert Guide permit from the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing before applying for the Safari Driving permit at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Sultan Al Marzouki, director of drivers’ licensing at the RTA, said the new permit aims to ensure all applicants have the right training and skills to interact with tourists and provide them with the right information about Dubai, in keeping with the global standing of the emirate.

Drivers are required to submit a No Objection Certificate from the sponsor, passport copy with valid residency, certificate of good conduct and knowledge of English language, in addition to completing a five-day tour guide course and passing the final assessment before obtaining the permit.

How do you evaluate the car market's performance in the UAE during Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS)?  

Summer is traditionally perceived as the quietest period in Dubai's commercial calendar. It is seen as the vacation season, where demand decreases and sales slow down. But that perception is changing each year and in 2014 it is easy to see that the city is bustling and the retail industry across the board is in great shape. The incentives provided by Dubai Summer Surprises have a huge effect on sales, and the automotive market is no exception. This is one of the busiest times where there is not just an increase in orders; it is more of a surge       

How was the company's performance this year during DSS, what are the growth percentage of sales and the percentage of your market share?

We are absolutely delighted with this year's figures. Since the start of DSS we have seen a 39% growth in sales compared to the same period in 2013, and in the first half of 2014 the UAE automotive market as a whole has grown by 13% compared to the first six months of 2013. In itself, it is an impressive figure, but when you compare that to a growth in our sales of 25%, you can see that not only is the general economy extremely buoyant, as a company we are enjoying an important and impressive time in our sales and our strategy. Our brand is as strong as it has ever been and our customers are consistently reflecting that.
